The skin is an indicator of anything that is a bit off within the body. As we get older we tend to develop wrinkles, due to collagen and elastin break down.
In an attempt to avoid those pesky little lines, we can put on all the skin creams we want, but doing things such as not drinking enough water, forgetting to use a moisturizer with SPF, forgetting sunglasses, using the wrong skin products for your skin type, eating junks, or skipping meals are all things that negatively impact our skin.
If you want to keep your skin looking smooth, fresh, and taut, then there are some habits to stop. Some of these habits are:
1. Sleeping on your face
Pressing your face on a pillow for hours will lead to wrinkles. To avoid this, use very soft pillows or change your sleep position.
2. Eating Junks
Research has shown that meals that are filled with inflammatory foods; white bread, red meat, sugary drinks or desserts, or processed food— can accelerate skin and body aging.
Twin Research Unit in London found that siblings who smoked had 40 percent thinner skin than their non-smoking counterparts.
4. Chewing Gum
The repetitive motion of gum chewing can cause lines and folds around the mouth from using the muscle frequently. This can cause the break down of the skin elasticity.
5. Not Sleeping Well
A study by Estee Lauder and UH Case Medical Center found that women who slept less than five hours a night had twice as many wrinkles and spots than women who slept for seven hours or more.
6. Drinking Too Much Alcohol
There are no nutrients in alcohol and recent studies show it can have a negative effect on the skin, and vitamin A, which is an important antioxidant responsible for cellular regeneration.
7. Not Using Moisturizer With Sunscreen
Spending time in the sun without wearing proper sunscreen is a surefire way to get sun damage and wrinkles.
The daily usage of moisturizers with SPF can help prevent this.
