FIFA Bans Samson Siasia For Life Over Match Fixing

Samson Siasia, a former Nigerian football player and National team coach, has been banned for life by world governing body, FIFA, after he was found guilty of match fixing.

Siasia who coached various national youth sides before a spell as senior coach in 2016, was linked to FIFA’s long-running investigation into the activities of Singaporean Wilson Raj Perumal who has been described by the football body as a “known match fixer”. Though the time period when FIFA believes he committed his infractions is unclear, however he was found ‘guilty of  accepting bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches’.

Samson Siasia was also given a CHF 50,000 fine following the formal ethics proceedings initiated against him on on February 11, 2019. Before being handed the life ban “from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level”.

Siasia won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria as a player and was one of the successful national youth team coaches in the country.

He is the third African to be banned by FIFA for his links to Perumal after former Sierra Leone FA official, Abu Bakarr Kabba and former Botswana FA official Mooketsi Kgotlele were suspended in July for five years and for life respectively.
