Mark Calaway popularly known in the wrestling ring as The Undertaker has finally taken a bow from wrestling after a long and glorious career of thirty years.
The 55-year-old wrestler is known to have created fear in the heart of his opponent through his supposedly diabolical character. He is regarded as the “dead man” due to his grand and terrifying entrance and appearance.
He has won seven world championships and a WrestleMania 21 match unbeaten run since his debut.
The Undertaker made the announcement on Sunday night, November 22 in the WWE ThunderDome with virtual fans watching from home due to the COVID 19 pandemic, as wrestling stars such as Shane McMahon, Big Show, and Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Shawn Michael, Mick Foley, congratulated him for a good career. He said;
For 30 long years, I’ve made that slow walk to this ring and have laid people to rest time and time again,”
Now, my time has come. My time has come to let The Undertaker rest… in… peace.
The WWE chairman, Vince McMahon also took out time to celebrate the veteran wrestler for a time well spent. He said;
Thirty years. Thirty long, arduous years. That’s three decades!
Three decades this man, not withstand his injuries and hardships he’s endured and stricken fear in the hearts of if not, terror in the hearts of almost everyone he faced here in the ring.
At the same time, he entertained the global audience. Be it WWF or, of course, WWE Universe currently.
Tonight marks an end of an era. End of an era of a long, storied career. It has to never be duplicated. So tonight, we say, we say goodbye.
